Due to the Nature of Your Crime: a Documentary

Is a series of short documentaries titled, Due to the Nature of Your Crime. These stories speak about men I’ve met who entered prison at a very young age. Most between the ages of sixteen and twenty years old. These men are now in their late thirties or early forties and are still fighting to get out of prison. However, most are denied parole, and it's usually because you guessed it, due to the nature of their crime. Which is what most of the inmates are told when they are denied parole.

Orion's Song: a Young Adult Sci-fi Novel

Sitting on top of her favorite mountain. Orion is a tall, shy beauty. She has the same black and white streaks in her hair as her twin Onyx. She keeps her hair braided, this makes her shifting easier.  This morning Orion was surrounded by fat, moist clouds that had fallen down to earth. Orion closed her eyes and remembered.  She smiled as she remembered her twin going through his change. It was similar to this morning, cold and wet.  She remembered laying all cuddled in her bed under a mountain of blankets. Orion felt her brother's transformation before seeing him. Opening her eyes, she saw him standing in front of her—a black and white Panda bear cub.

She quickly sat up. Orion squealed and clapped her hands. She knew her Papa was going to be so pleased to see what Onyx had become.  Orion jumped from the bed calling for her parents, "Mama! Papa!" She took Onyx by his paw and dragged him into her parent's room. "Look, Onyx has made the change." Rob and Althea Base were thrilled to see their handsome baby boy was now a Panda cub. At sixteen, Onyx is handsome, tall, and dark-skinned. He wears his hair long loose with natural black and white streaks.

Unlike her twin, Orion is not a social person. She spends her time in the mountains, free to shift into her lean, lethal tiger's body.

Orion has a secret that not even her twin knows about.

Justin Kase: A Young Adult Sci-Fi Novel

People are sick. Sometimes I smell the coppery scent of blood in the air; not unlike the smell of pollution, the smell gets stronger and closer to our sector every day.

Justin Kase discovers that he may not survive his world at the bottom if he does not change what happens up top. Justin has a special gift, and so does his anchors, the Tomorrow Twins.

I am Justin T. Kase. I live in New Bronx, a city housed below and above the subways. I live with my mah and Grandma in sector D. Sector D is my whole neighborhood. Only the D train travels to my side of town. Whether you live up top or down below, your sector is your sector.

At this point, all humans have body chips located at the nape of their neck. We wear our sector brands like a tattoo.

My two best friends are the Tomorrow Twins, Satchel, and Paige.  Are also my Anchors. We were born on the same day, at the exact time. Their parents were huge baseball fans before the deterioration began.
